The Cattle Left Mill Meadows 19th August 2025
The cattle left the Mill Meadows Local Nature Reserve today, the 19th August 2025. They were taken back to the local farm where they belong because even though there is grass, much of the grass is dead and has no nutritional value for the cattle. The cattle do not usually leave quite so early in the year but due to the poor weather conditions, the pasture can no longer provide them with a good source of food or nutrients.
The cattle have done a good job this year but it will be necessary for Basildon Borough Council to follow up with a tractor sometime in the coming weeks to remove bramble, scrub and thicker clumps of grass.
The cattle will return next spring.
