Wards Hoppits Pond Restoration

An old pond in the field called Wards Hoppits is to be dug out on Tuesday 14th February 2023. The pond is located on the western side of Mill Meadows. It can be seen on the website map east from Locker’s Hall. As can be seen from the picture, the pond has become full of silt, grass and tree debris. A digger will enter Mill Meadows at the entrance on the Southend Road adjacent to the cattle corral. The digger will be used to dredge the pond which will hopefully enable a wider variety of aquatic plants and amphibians to thrive. The restoration work is being undertaken in liaison with Josh Childs, Basildon Council’s Biodiversity Officer. The project is being funded by Natural England.
